Education and Training Program
Across Boundaries is proud to announce its Education and Training Program on Cultural Competency, Equity and Anti-racism/Anti-oppression in Mental Health and Addiction. The program will consist of an annual conference, quarterly series of workshops as well as presentations tailored according to the need of the agency or organization.
Across Boundaries is a not for profit agency that provides a range of supports and services that identify and honour the strengths of individuals, families, and racialized communities - while recognizing and addressing the negative impact of racism and discrimination on their mental health and well being. Our services are grounded in up-to-date knowledge and research, community engagement, capacity building, and an awareness of the intersection of personal identities. Advocacy, training, and education within the health care sector that brings about individual, families, institutional and systemic change are strong components of our commitment to quality mental health and addiction care for people from racialized communities.
We strongly believe in the importance of on-going professional development and its positive impact on both agencies and the communities they serve. To this end, we have developed several training modules to be used in facilitating cultural competency and anti-racism/anti-oppression workshops. These trainings will support agencies in becoming more accessible to the diverse client population in the area they serve. We also welcome the participation of consumer/survivors and families and we will be willing to sponsor them to enable them to attend the training workshops.
We look forward to hearing from you and discuss how we can best share our knowledge and expertise on how we implement a client-centred, recovery oriented and holistic model of care within an anti-racism/anti-oppression framework.

ABOUT THE TRAINING
Across Boundaries Anti-Racism/Anti-Oppression training and workshops are presented utilizing a variety of tools, styles and format. The full training is divided into two levels and involving the use of five modules. These two levels and five modules are designed to accommodate some differences in interests and also in levels of understanding of anti-racism/anti-oppression work.
Participants will be encouraged to reflect and share their insights, views and life experiences in the discussions of policies and legislations such as The Mental Health Act, Employment Equity, Human Rights, Multiculturalism, Race Relations, Immigration and Refugees.
We have been presenting an ongoing series of training and workshops, which we hope, will help to provide the participants with the knowledge and skills to utilize an anti-racism framework in many of the agencies and organizations in which we are working.
The Anti-racism framework includes:
- Anti-Racism Education and Training.
- Anti-Racism Organizational Change.
- Anti-Racism Service Delivery.
Across Boundaries’ Anti-Racism training and workshops will be presented and discussed in a respectful, affirming and inclusive manner. The goal of the training is to find pathways to help all Consumers/Survivors and their families in their healing journey.
